Why We Started Giving: The Sheehans

Kevin & Kristen Sheehan

When I was in high school, I was a frequent dinner guest at my best friend’s house. I always felt welcome there, but I knew I had crossed the line into being like family when his mom asked me to help with chores. I didn’t mind at all—in fact, I liked helping, because it made me feel like I belonged. One of the amazing implications of the gospel is that through Jesus Christ, we’ve been made a part of the family of God, and the local church is the context where we get to live out family life together. So when my wife and I started attending Church of the Resurrection regularly this past June, we didn’t want to waste time acting like dinner guests. We knew that being part of God’s family meant we had the privilege of belonging—and of participating in the life of the church with the resources we have. That’s what family does.”
