Church of the Resurrection

Good Friday Gift

Church of the Resurrection has chosen Good Friday as the day to present a special Global Mission offering to God as a response to Christ's sacrificial love for us.

Our yearly offering has three goals:

  • to work with one of our long-term global partners;
  • to bring people to Jesus and show the love of Jesus (evangelism and compassion);
  • to include a “GO” (or short-term missions) aspect to the gift.

Resurrection's Good Friday Gift tradition began in 2002. You can read more about our Good Friday Gift history here.

The House of Hope

This year, we are partnering with Archbishop Miguel Uchoa and the Anglican Diocese of Recife, Brazil to support House of Hope. This ministry provides prenatal care, daycare, and educational programs to poverty-stricken women and their children living in the crime-ridden slums of the region. This strategic ministry gives hope for a future to impoverished families in Brazil.

Our Partnership with Archbishop Miguel Ochoa

Church of the Resurrection has had a special friendship with Abp. Miguel and his family for over a decade. In 1998, Abp. Miguel and his wife Valaria founded House of Hope. While parts of Brazil are thriving, they saw a great need and opportunity for Christ-centered family services in the region’s poorest neighborhoods. Over the past 20 years, House of Hope has fostered greater peace and security for hundreds of families and welcomed dozens to the family of God.

Ministry Strategy

Our 2019 Good Friday Gift will support two proven strategies of ministering to the vulnerable in the heart of these neighborhoods.

1. Pre- and Postnatal Care

The vulnerable years around birth provide an opportunity for the Church to introduce families to the love of God. House of Hope mentors about 15 expectant mothers and more than 100 babies and preschoolers in their Christ-centered daycare.

2. After-School Care and Soccer Clubs

When children outgrow daycare, they continue to receive love and discipleship through a Continuity Program. House of Hope engages youth in a healthy community, mentors students in the Lord, and reinforces academic and social skills
