Join us on November 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ministry Center for Resurrection’s annual Christmas Village! This is a great opportunity to serve our overseas missionaries by purchasing Christmas gifts for those they minister to daily. Embrace the joy of giving this Christmas season and while you’re at it, enjoy some coffee and a cookie, pet a sheep, and wander through our Christmas tree forest! Now, really, doesn’t that sound more enjoyable than fighting the crowds at Oakbrook?

A few things that strike me from this set of Proverbs are that work “works” when it is the reception of a gift from God (18:16), connected to bodily reality (16:26), an opportunity for faithfulness in the small things (11:18, 16:11), and productively messy and risky (14:4). These things are so convicting because of my contrary attitudes. How much more would I prefer an endless annuity to being forced to rely on God? How many more days do I chose the tidiness of getting my invented chores done than the hard and fearful work of getting some real work done? How often do I believe that the way to access the Lord’s provision is to nickel and dime my employer on expenses and “billable hours” instead of through prayer, fasting, and working before considering comfort (24:27)?
