Ekphrasis, the Greek word meaning “to proclaim or call an inanimate object by name,” is traditionally a verbal or visual description of another work of art. This Ash Wednesday, three Resurrection artists offer the ekphrastic results of their time spent with van Gogh’s “Pietà.” This poem, reflection, and painting are meant to lead you into a time of reflective worship as we enter into the season of Lent.Ekphrasis, the Greek word meaning “to proclaim or call an inanimate object by name,” is traditionally a verbal or visual description of another work of art. Of all the friends and family excited about our book project, Back to the Manger – A Treasure Hunt for the Nativity he was beaming over it. So much beaming that I couldn’t wait to give him the book as a gift when we all met together in Connecticut for the holiday. My dear father-in law died the day after Thanksgiving. I adored him.
