When I came to Church of the Resurrection 6 years ago, I asked myself, “Where are Christians on sanctity-of-life issues?” There seemed to be a great silence. So many vital and needed ministries were at work in the church-- I saw God working in so many ways -in and through people. But eventually I became aware that Christians were often confused, even divided, over the issues surrounding abortion. Some were worn out with it all and frustrated—understandably so. What could they do—how could they make a difference in something so huge and seemingly beyond their control?

When I was 20 years old, I found a drowned man washed up on a Florida beach. I later learned he’d jumped off the Key Biscayne Bridge the day before. Though I was not religious at the time, I remember perceiving that what I was seeing was not simply physical death, but spiritual death as well. It left a deep and lasting impression on me.
