I have a new-found obsession with egg whites. I set about making these insanely yummy chocolate soufflé muffin cupcake things for Easter brunch, headed for my kitchen, and met my match. I had never separated eggs before, and the chocolatey awesomeness called for egg whites, separated out, and whipped up. There the whites sat, runny and pale and kinda gross, in the bottom of my mixing bowl. Not sure what would happen, I turned on my mixer and waded in.I have a new-found obsession with egg whites. Something powerful happens when a church community simply reads the Bible together. This probably sounds boring to a lot of people. No gimmicks. No outlandish sets. No fog machines. Just the true stories of some pretty stubborn people and their fiercely faithful God. But during this year’s Easter Vigil I was struck by the inevitable wonder of these stories and how they teach us the meaning of God’s faithfulness to his people, the Israelites and his church.Something powerful happens when a church community simply reads the Bible together. This was only my second Good Friday at Resurrection, so I can honestly say: I always approach the praying-at-the-cross time with a lot of anticipation—and a lot more trepidation. I get worried about the logistics. What if I can’t find an open spot to pray? I get concerned about the public side of it. Couldn’t I just stay in my seat and envision bringing my burdens to the cross? This was only my second Good Friday at Resurrection, so I can honestly say: I always approach the praying-at-the-cross time with a lot of anticipation—and a lot more trepidation. As Christians, we believe living in the community of the local church is really important. This is where we see God’s presence are transformed into Christ’s image. But living in the beautiful reality of the fellowship of the church community is not an easy thing. On Maundy Thursday we are not confronted with the idyllic Normal Rockwell painting of a blissful, smiling family around a dinner table. No. Instead, we see feet.As Christians, we believe living in the community of the local church is really important. This is where we see God’s presence are transformed into Christ’s image. This Palm Sunday was my first time participating in the outdoor processional as a musician. I walked up the hill singing and playing my guitar, walked onto stage and worshipped with a room full of excitement and praise. A forest of palms were waving, children were dancing, banners were flying, and all of our voices were singing Hosanna to our King! The last song finished and I walked to the back. While I was still catching my breath from the last 20 minutes of joy, Ty had already begun to tell the story of Jesus’ crucifixion. This Palm Sunday was my first time participating in the outdoor processional as a musician.
