Return the the Father’s House – Resist Temptation
On Sunday, Father Stewart preached on the temptation of Jesus at the end of his 40-day fast in the wilderness (Luke 4:1–13). The Great Lent
Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. The Past and Present of Ash Wednesday
I arrived at Church of the Resurrection unfamiliar with liturgical practice and the church calendar. One of my first interactions with the Resurrection community occurred on Ash Wednesday in 2008, at the evening service. I was ushered into my Lenten journey that year by a time of special repentance, even without any foreknowledge of the purpose of Ash Wednesday, and my spirit was quickened tremendously in preparation for Easter. I hope what follows is helpful as a reminder to those of you who are already familiar with Ash Wednesday, and helpful as new information for those of you who aren’t!
