Walk Across the Street Orientation

9:30am–12:00pm in Oak Park, IL

Please note that this event will be held in Oak Park, IL at Cornerstone Anglican Church, one of our diocesan churches. The map to the location is below.

For the past few years, our diocese has been in an intentional ministry partnership with True Freedom, a primarily black church in Oak Park, IL.

In an effort to build friendship and connection, Pastor Michael Wright (the pastor of True Freedom) and Canon William Beasley of the Greenhouse Movement are calling our diocese to form multiple teams of about five people each to visit different black churches throughout the West Side of Chicago. The churches are all friends of True Freedom, and the purpose of these visits will be to build friendship and Gospel communion with one another. This is the vision, as Pastor Michael and Canon William call it, of “walking across the street.”

Everyone is invited to join us on Saturday, September 16 at 9:30am at the Greenhouse Mission Center in Oak Park for a time of joint worship and prayer with True Freedom and Greenhouse. Afterward, we will hear from the pastors of the churches we will be visiting, form teams, and pray together.

As we continue to process the events of Charlottesville, we are excited about this opportunity to oppose racism through friendship. You can read Bishop Stewart's pastoral letter to learn more.

NOTE: This event is part of a larger day of training for the Greenhouse movement. If you would like to stay after the orientation for lunch and the breakout sessions, please RSVP here.
