The Psalmist frequently laments: Why do you hide your face and forget our misery and oppression? (Psalm 44:24)? And Isaiah reminds us: “Truly you are a God who hides himself, O God and Savior of Israel (Isaiah 45:15). C.S. Lewis complained of the crushing silence of heaven at the time of his wife’s death. How can we understand the silence of a God who promises “behold, I am with you, even to the end of the age.” We reflect on both contemporary and classic answers to the hiddenness of God. Jay Wood, professor of philosophy at Wheaton College, leads us.

An Advent Study: The Second Coming: What in the World are We Waiting For? Part 1 by Jay Wood
CLT 61:58 minutes (28.36 MB)
Advent is the season we recall Jesus’ first coming and look forward to his next. But what, exactly, are we waiting for? Surprisingly, many Christians lack a clear understanding of what they’re living their whole lives to attain. Will we spend eternity in heaven, and what’s that like? What does heaven have to do with the new heavens and the new earth? What difference does it make to our lives now that Jesus will return to “judge the living and the dead?” The adult education leadership team will lead us in exploring these and related questions.
